Day 16 of the challenge has me smiling. Why you may ask? Well, it’s simple really – music.
I’ve always loved music and love all different genres of music. If it has a nice beat, you can bet I’m moving along to it. From Country music to Yodeling and everything in between! I have quite an eclectic taste when it comes to music and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Variety is the spice of life after all.
Music has a way of speaking to me. It can help me calm down. It can help me cheer up. It can help me have a good cry if that’s what is needed. Music moves me and helps give words to feelings that I otherwise have trouble expressing verbally. Is it like that for any of you? I don’t think I can be alone on music being so much…MORE than merely a tune or melody. I can not be the only one who music speaks to on a deeper level.
What I listen to is completely determined by my mood. I tend to lead with my emotional state a lot when it comes to making decisions. It’s extremely prevalent when it comes to music. It also plays a role in bands I end up liking as well for more than merely one song. Kings of Leon is one of the bands that I liked their two mainstream songs that came out but then hadn’t heard much about them afterwards and thought I wouldn’t really be into any more of their music. Fast forward to last night when I attended a Kings of Leon concert with one of my best friends who had won two free tickets through a radio contest.
I would be lying if I said that I went in expecting to not be very impressed with them overall because the songs that I had heard were good but I was over them in about two weeks. So, I went in not holding my breath. However, I was pleasantly surprised when they began to play because there I was bopping along and cheering with the rest of the audience! As the evening progressed, I found that I liked a lot of their other songs that I hadn’t heard before then. Their music has a nice relaxing flow to it and that is exactly what I used their Spotify playlist for today – relaxing.
So, my Little Thing for Day 16 was the discovery of Kings of Leon’s other songs and discovering yet another band I can use to help me relax.
I’m glad that I went and even more happy that I have now discovered even more music to add to my ever expanding list of what I enjoy. I judged them way too quickly going in and am sad about that fact. However, I will use this opportunity to learn from my mistake and not judge a book by its cover, so to speak.
